CBD Flowers or Cannabidiol Oil: How to Choose?
A key component of well-being, cannabidiol, or CBD, is now available in a variety of forms to suit different needs. Some people prefer to smoke CBD flowers or resin, whilst others tend to opt for CBD oils as their preferred method of consumption. The legitimate question arises as to which is the best method of consuming cannabidiol. Between CBD flowers and oil, which form is most suitable?
Key takeaways:
- The bioavailability of CBD varies depending on the method of consumption, not necessarily the product (oil or flower).
- Vaporisation offers the best bioavailability for both CBD flowers and oil.
- CBD oil allows for precise dosing and easy consumption, making it suitable for beginners.
- CBD flowers offer an authentic taste and immediate effects, ideal for connoisseurs.

At first glance, it would appear that oil has better ‘bioavailability’ than CBD flowers, as the body is able to absorb a greater quantity of cannabidiol sublingually than through combustion. This does not mean that CBD oil produces stronger effects than CBD flowers. The “best form” of CBD depends essentially on how it is consumed.
CBD Oil vs CBD Flower: the question of bioavailability.
The question is not so much a choice between CBD oil and flower, but rather a choice of how the oil or flower is consumed.
If we look at the issue of bioavailability – that is, the body’s ability to absorb a given substance – we realise that it is more a question of method than of product. Whether taken as cannabidiol oil or directly from the hemp flower, CBD will have better effects depending on whether it is vaped, smoked, ingested…
Here is the ranking of CBD bioavailability according to method of administration:
1. Vaporisation: CBD flowers and oil
Vaporisation is the best way to feel the effects of CBD quickly and effectively.
It is important to note that when vaped, CBD’s bioavailability can reach 20%. In other words, when the vapour passes through the respiratory tract, the body is particularly able to absorb the substance.
Furthermore, vaping causes far less damage to the cannabidiol molecule than combustion. Not only does the body absorb it better, but it absorbs more cannabidiol molecules than if it had been burned. You will feel the effects in just a few seconds.
It should be noted that vaporisation can be used for both CBD flowers and oil. Some vaporisers are suitable for both types of product.
2. Consuming CBD via the sublingual method: Oil
The so-called sublingual method is only suitable for oils. This involves placing a few drops of cannabidiol oil under the tongue, waiting for around thirty seconds, then swallowing. This method of administration increases effectiveness and absorption as the CBD molecules pass through the mucous membranes of the mouth.
The effects peak a few hours after ingestion and last for some time.
3. Smoking CBD: Flowers
This method is not the most recommended as it irritates the respiratory tract. Smoking carries risks and increases the risk of addiction, as CBD joints are often rolled with tobacco. Nicotine is responsible for addiction.
As with vaping, the passage of smoke through the respiratory tract increases bioavailability. However, combustion significantly damages the cannabidiol molecule: whilst bioavailability increases, there are, conversely, fewer molecules available.
4. Eating CBD: CBD oil and flowers
Whether using oil or flowers, you can prepare small dishes with cannabidiol. With this method, the body is able to absorb around 8% of the cannabidiol molecules. This low bioavailability has the advantage of providing gentle, long-lasting effects. A herbal tea made with CBD flowers or a few drops of oil before bed, and the whole night becomes restorative!
The benefits of organic CBD oil: less or more effective than flowers?
As we’ve seen, it’s not so much the product itself as the way it’s administered that makes all the difference. Flowers or oil, both have their merits!
Organic cannabidiol oil is particularly beneficial in many ways.
1. Organic CBD oil: choose your concentration!
When taken sublingually, bioavailability is lower than when vaped. But is it less effective than vaped CBD flowers? Not by much, and for a very simple reason: you can choose the cannabidiol concentration!
Even though a vaped flower will be absorbed very well, it generally contains no more than 6% CBD. In an oil, the cannabidiol concentration can vary from 5% to 30% depending on your choice. In other words, even with lower bioavailability, the body absorbs more cannabidiol.
Furthermore, with cannabidiol oil, you can choose which type of cannabinoids you absorb. If you do not want any traces of THC at all, for example, you can opt for a broad-spectrum cannabidiol oil.
2. Taking CBD via oil: freedom and ease of use
Whether taken sublingually, ingested or vaporised: simply use the bottle’s pipette to measure out the dose. CBD oil is particularly easy to use and accessible to the general public. It requires no specialist knowledge or special equipment.
When consuming CBD flowers, on the other hand, you do need some knowledge:
- If you cook with it, as it needs to be ‘decarboxylated’.
- If you smoke it, as you need to know how to roll a joint, although there are pre-rolled cones.
3. Organic CBD oil and synergy!
In a cannabidiol oil, you may find other essential oils and cannabinoids that promote effective synergy. For example, in a CBD oil for sleep, you might find lavender or chamomile essential oil. CBD oil is a gentle method that promotes sleep and long-term recovery.

The benefits of CBD flowers
1. An authentic taste
CBD flowers have their own benefits too! One of the main ones is their authenticity. For former smokers, hemp flowers will allow you to rediscover the pleasure of trying new strains… and all in a completely legal way!
2. Immediate effects
When inhaled, the flower buds will have more immediate effects than when taken sublingually. Note that cannabidiol oil can also be vaporised, provided you have a suitable device such as a vaporiser.

3. As close to nature as possible
Vaporising your CBD flower is a way of staying close to its natural origin. When you choose to consume your CBD in the form of a flower, you maintain a direct link to nature.
No processing, no mixing: it is the purest form of the flower. This also preserves all the cannabinoids naturally present in the hemp plant, which also have beneficial properties for the body (CBG, CBN, CBG, CBC…).
Which to choose: CBD flower or oil?
There is no ‘best’ option.
Depending on your needs, you should choose the product and method of administration that you prefer. If you want immediate effects, vaping and sublingual use are good options. If you want long-lasting effects, ingestion is more appropriate.
CBD flowers are generally best suited to connoisseurs who take real pleasure in exploring new experiences. Oil is better suited to beginners.
