What is THCV?
Among the host of new cannabinoids on the market is THCV. Also known as tetrahydrocannabivarin, THCV is said to have significant relaxing properties.
THCV develops naturally during the flowering stage of hemp. It was discovered at the same time as other cannabinoids, in the 20th century. However, it still seems to be little known, and there are few scientific studies focusing on it. It is fair to ask what the specific characteristics of this multifaceted cannabinoid are. As it happens, that is precisely what we are discussing today!
Key takeaways:
- THCV, or tetrahydrocannabivarin, is a cannabinoid with significant relaxing properties.
- It occurs naturally in hemp and differs from CBD in terms of its origin and effects.
- THCV may have anti-convulsant, anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety effects, and act as an appetite suppressant.
- It is recommended for deep relaxation, pain relief, boosting creativity and reducing appetite.

The THCV molecule
Tetrahydrocannabivarin is not yet very popular. However, it is said to have undeniable benefits! The scientific community is increasingly turning its attention to this rather unique cannabinoid, which differs significantly from CBD.
To begin with, THCV is a cannabinoid derived, like CBD, CBG, CBN or CBC, from hemp. To be more precise, this molecule appears during the flowering of hemp, as THCV-A breaks down, a process also known as decarboxylation.
Unlike cannabidiol (CBD), THCV therefore originates from a different parent molecule. Whilst most cannabinoids develop naturally from the breakdown of cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), it is the decarboxylation of THCVA that gives rise to THCV.
This is why tetrahydrocannabivarin differs from other cannabinoids in terms of its effects. It does not interact in exactly the same way with our CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. THCV is even thought to have certain effects that are opposite to those of other cannabinoids. It appears that in traditional cannabis, it was a molecule that reduced the harmful effects of THC.
The effects of THCV
Scientific interest
Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) has, to date, not been the subject of a large number of articles. The scientific community has in fact focused on studying milder molecules such as CBD (cannabidiol). It is only recently that this cannabinoid has come to the fore for its many properties, even though its existence has been known since the 1970s.
Today, the scientific community has uncovered the significant potential of THCV. Tetrahydrocannabivarin is believed to possess:
- Anticonvulsant effects.
- Anti-inflammatory properties.
- Anxiety-relieving properties.
- Appetite-suppressing effects.
Although studies are still ongoing, we can already hypothesise that the molecule may be used in the future to combat obesity and depression. Unlike most other cannabinoids, which induce a feeling of hunger or even ‘cravings’, THCV is thought to have the opposite effect. It is believed to significantly reduce the urge to eat.
Of course, this scientific research does not pertain to the personal use of THCV. This cannabinoid is intended solely for wellbeing: it is not a medicine and does not replace medical treatment. If you have any questions or concerns, please consult your doctor.
Personal use: effects of THCV
As we have seen, THCV is currently intended solely for personal use with a focus on wellbeing. It is not a therapeutic compound.
Relaxation & THCV
According to research and user feedback, THCV is said to provide an intense feeling of relaxation. Whether physically or mentally, one feels lighter and more at ease. This is why it is referred to as an anti-stress cannabinoid, perfect for managing everyday ailments (anxiety, distress, etc.).
THCV: pain relief
Relief from anxiety is accompanied by pain relief. Just like cannabidiol, THCV is said to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Stimulation of creativity
Another key property is that THCV appears to stimulate motivation and creativity. In fact, it is said to be one of the most stimulating cannabinoids for the mind. Users often speak of a sense of excitement or even euphoria. It makes you want to do things, to explore, to take action. This is, in fact, why tetrahydrocannabivarin is so popular!
Reducing the feeling of hunger
Although research is still ongoing, everyone agrees that THCV reduces appetite. It would appear that this cannabinoid is an effective appetite suppressant!
Recommendations
THCV certainly has many benefits, but it should be consumed in moderation. This cannabinoid is much more potent than CBD! This is why it is recommended that you properly research the compound before consuming it.
Are there any side effects?
Indeed, THCV can have side effects. It may slow reaction times, cause a dry mouth, lead to anxiety or even be associated with memory lapses when consumed. That is why we advise:
- Do not drive.
- Do not operate dangerous machinery.
- Do not carry out tasks requiring concentration.
Unlike CBD, this cannabinoid is best reserved for quiet moments, particularly in the evening, once all the day’s tasks have been completed.
THCV: who is it for?
THCV is not recommended for beginners. It is best to start with milder cannabinoids if you are new to this.
This compound is prohibited for minors and strongly discouraged for pregnant and breastfeeding women, or for those undergoing medical treatment. Indeed, research is not yet sufficiently extensive, and it is unclear to what extent the compound may interact with a given treatment. To avoid dangerous liver strain, we recommend that anyone undergoing medical treatment seek the advice of a healthcare professional.
Where can you buy THCV?
Very few high street shops stock THCV. However, some online shops already offer it! This is the case with Sixty8, which already stocks certain products such as THCV e-liquid cartridges, optimised by Magic Farmers.
You can therefore buy THCV online!
Please note that these products are legal to buy and sell, provided the THC content does not exceed 0.2%. At Sixty8, we comply with the law! Be careful, however: whilst THCV is legal in France, this is not necessarily the case in every country. If you are travelling, you will need to check the legislation in each country.
You can therefore explore our tetrahydrocannabivarin products in complete legality.
