CBD & Stress: How can cannabidiol help you?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is what is known as a ‘phytocannabinoid’, that is to say, a substance produced by a plant that is capable of interacting with our endocannabinoid system. This much-talked-about endocannabinoid system can be defined as a complex network of receptors and transmitters that regulates the body, particularly the nervous system.
When the endocannabinoid system interacts with cannabinoids, effects on the body and mind are quickly felt. CBD, as a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, helps many people manage their stress. It can be a good everyday wellness solution for combating the symptoms of stress or anxiety. Having a stressful day? Prone to anxiety? Cannabidiol might be just the thing for you!

Stress: the main reason for using CBD
The scientific community has wasted a great deal of time in its research due to the prejudices surrounding cannabis. Today, cannabidiol is widely studied and appears very promising as a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is not addictive. With the multitude of studies carried out, an interesting fact has emerged: most consumers turn to cannabidiol for its anti-stress effects.
On this point, a study in the Journal of Cannabis Research, which aimed to understand the reasons for CBD use, is very telling. Using an online questionnaire, which gathered 397 valid responses, the study shows that the top two reasons for using CBD are anxiety and stress, followed by general well-being and sleep.
Nearly half of the respondents indicated that they use CBD to combat anxiety.
This surprising proportion reflects a need among the population to turn to gentle yet effective products to combat stress. And you’ll be amazed by the reviews! Cannabidiol seems to work wonders, if the survey is to be believed!
CBD and stress: extremely positive reviews
In this same study from the Journal of Cannabis Research, respondents also gave their views on the effects of CBD in managing stress and anxiety.
The figures are as promising as they are surprising! 86.5% of respondents say they feel less anxious and over half find they dwell less on their problems! When it comes to stress, the figures are even more impressive… 92% feel less stressed after using CBD.
The survey is clear: feedback regarding the effect of CBD on stress and anxiety is promising. In a society that is moving ever faster, with ever-tighter deadlines and ever-higher demands, one might wonder whether cannabidiol could be a far-reaching solution for well-being.
Cannabidiol: a placebo effect?
Another study, published in Psychopharmacology, suggests that the effect of CBD may be even greater on acute stress and anxiety when the patient is convinced of its efficacy. This is known as the ‘placebo effect’. It appears to be a combination of a tangible effect on the endocannabinoid system (already proven by numerous studies) and a perception shaped by our preconceptions. ‘The mere expectation of CBD influenced several subjective and physiological responses,’ the article states.
Generally speaking, we can say that cannabidiol has an effect that intensifies… when we want it to! Why deprive ourselves of a placebo effect when it enhances our well-being?
Other effects of CBD: post-traumatic stress
Studies, always studies! An article, written by three researchers from the Penn State College of Medicine, demonstrates through the analysis of numerous studies on the subject that cannabidiol appears to have an inhibitory effect on post-traumatic stress. This implies a potential effect on stress and anxiety in general.
The conclusion is clear: “Above all, preclinical evidence supports the view that CBD may emerge as a potential treatment for stress and anxiety disorders resulting from a past stressful event, particularly by reducing distressing behaviours and supporting the fading of traumatic contextual memory, which are hallmarks of post-traumatic stress.”
CBD: a solution for stress and anxiety?
It is clear that cannabidiol is now becoming a major focus in pharmacology. Whether in terms of consumer experience or preclinical studies, everything seems to indicate that cannabidiol genuinely helps the body to regulate itself and combat stress.
Cannabidiol for stress is already available in pharmacies, but it is still not widely accessible. We can hope that it will become even more widespread in the coming years, although recent legal decisions suggest a dramatic step backwards.
However, not only is cannabidiol non-addictive and non-psychoactive, but its side effects are also minimal. Some people experience a little tiredness, others nausea: this remains rare and is mainly linked to dosage. The side effects are even minimal when compared to those of opioids or standard anti-anxiety drugs.
Caution is therefore advised. CBD is not a medicine; seek advice from a healthcare professional.
For the time being, it is more of a valuable asset for well-being!
