What is indoor cultivation?
Growing cannabis is a practice that is becoming increasingly popular around the world.
Whilst many CBD enthusiasts are considering taking up hemp cultivation for their own consumption, many realise that growing hemp represents a significant investment, both in terms of money and time.
In this article, we will focus on indoor cultivation, what it is and how to go about it.
Indoor cultivation: what’s that all about?
Indoor cultivation, which can be translated into French as ‘culture d’intérieur’, is a specific method of growing seedlings. There are different methods for growing plants indoors and the process will vary depending on the variety of plant being cultivated.
What are the different types of indoor cultivation?
Indoor growing can be approached in several ways, whether in soil, using hydroponics or aeroponics. However, there are three main traditional methods.
Growing in soil
This is the simplest and the most effective method; it is also recommended for beginners. It involves growing the plant in potting soil. It is possible to provide it with additional nutrients using specific fertilisers.
Hydroponics
This involves growing the plant in water. Suitable for beginners, this technique nevertheless requires a minimum of knowledge and monitoring. It is ideal as it allows for optimal control of the nutrients the plant needs for growth and flowering.
Aquaponics
In this type of cultivation, fish and plants coexist and feed off each other. Although this technique is extremely effective, it requires excellent gardening skills to successfully maintain a balanced and healthy ecosystem for both the plants and the fish.
Which plants are suitable for indoor cultivation?
Themain advantage of indoor cultivation, apart from the quality of the plants, is that it allows you to grow your own fruit, vegetables, herbs, or in our case legal hemp, for your own consumption. Furthermore, indoor cultivation allows you to maintain total control over production... You can manage the amount of sunlight, the duration of sunlight, the water’s pH, the wind...
Be careful, however, as not all plants are grown in the same way.
Different requirements depending on the plant
Before you start growing anything in pots or using hydroponics, for example, it is essential to create an environment conducive to the growth of the plants you wish to grow. To do this, you must first find high-quality seeds and provide them with an optimal space for growth.
The benefits of indoor growing
Indoor growing offers numerous benefits for growers. The ability to create a microclimate for seedlings allows plants to grow more quickly in a favourable environment.
Furthermore, the plants are protected not only from pests, but also from adverse weather conditions and other potential hazards. In addition, the plants grow faster and there are no seasonal constraints. The quality of the final product is also better, although the aromas are less pronounced.

How to grow CBD indoors?
Although the cannabis plant originates from the mountains of South America, it now grows naturally in several humid, tropical and mountainous regions around the world.
Growing CBD flowers indoors involves planting them in a closed environment. But what equipment do you need and how should you proceed to ensure a successful grow and optimise your harvest?
Let’s take a closer look.
What equipment do you need?
To grow hemp for consumption, it is essential to have the right equipment. There are ready-to-install indoor grow kits available, but it is also possible to set up your own system. However, you must choose the right components, whether it be the indoor grow tent, fertilisers or even the LED lights for indoor growing, as these will have a direct impact on the success of your project and your harvest.
Setting up a grow space
A cupboard, a grow box or an indoor grow tent with specific features suited to the growth of CBD flowers.
Choosing the right lighting
An indoor grow light is essential for the plant’s healthy growth; you can opt for different types of lighting, such as an LED grow light, for example.
Manage the climate in the grow box effectively
Air extractor, fan, ducting, weather station, humidifier, carbon filter... it is essential to keep your plants in good conditions.
Don’t forget the small equipment
Measuring pipette for fertiliser, watering can, spray bottle, wooden fork, extension leads and power strips, adhesive tape, rope, straps, fastening systems, etc.
Don’t forget the consumables
Fertiliser, potting soil, seeds, electricity... are also items to include on your shopping list.
How to choose the right seeds?
Before planting your seeds, you need to get hold of some. To do this, you can easily visit an indoor growing shop which can also advise you on the different varieties, as well as providing you with all the equipment needed for growing CBD.
Types of CBD seeds
Not only are there three types of CBD seeds: regular CBD seeds, feminised CBD seeds and autoflowering CBD seeds; but you will also need to choose the variety of hemp you want to grow: Sativa, Indica or hybrids, with what flavour, what scent, etc.
The number of plants
To know how many plants you should/can grow, you need to consider the strength of your lighting and the growing time before harvest.
That’s right, the more powerful the indoor LED grow light, the faster your plants will grow (so you shouldn’t use too few to make the most of the entire area, but not too many either, so as not to suffocate the plants).
The stages of indoor cultivation
Once you’ve chosen your seeds, set your goal and set up your space, the real work can begin – it’s time to get started with indoor CBD cultivation.
The process remains the same as for growing any plant:
- Seed germination ;
- Growth phase ;
- Flowering phase ;
- Harvest ;
- Drying.
Thanks to indoor cultivation, it is possible to control your CBD production from start to finish, optimise the growing time and maximise the yield of your plants. Once the CBD flowers are ready, they must be stored correctly so they can be used as they are or processed into derivative products such as CBD oil, Marrakech butter or cosmetics, amongst others.
