Medical cannabis: Is France finally taking action?
This morning, good news was published in the Official Journal for all cannabis enthusiasts: France has authorised the cultivation of cannabis for therapeutic purposes. A major step forward for legislation and medicine in France, and perhaps a first step towards the future legalisation of the plant...
In this article, I invite you to take a quick look at the article published in the Official Journal this very morning (18/02/2022) concerning the cultivation of medical cannabis in France.
The Medical Cannabis Decree
With this decree, the French government ensures it controls all cannabis production in France.
This decree aims to enable the ANSM (French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety) to authorise the cultivation, production or distribution of cannabis-based products in France.
Yann Bisiou, a senior lecturer in private law and criminal sciences and a specialist in drug law, stated in an interview that the main risk associated with this decree is that “the ANSM may refuse to develop a competitive system, similar to what is done with opium in France”.

This would once again make France the worst performer in Europe regarding cannabis, unable to develop an industry capable of competing with the rest of the EU.
The fact that the French government has decided to legislate on cannabis this year is, all things considered, rather good news. The law, which had remained unchanged for many years, is beginning to change, and this will allow for future experiments within the country.
You can find the full text of the new decree, directly on the LégiFrance website where it was published.
